Verslag D4net-bijeenkomst over postpolitiek met Merijn Oudenampsen,

D4net heeft Merijn Oudenampsen gevraagd om naar aanleiding van de verkiezingen over de politieke situatie in Nederland te spreken. Hij wil het niet hebben over de politieke partijen, maar over het Nederlandse politieke systeem als zodanig.

De stemming slaat om; 100.000 gratis "Volkskranten" uitgedeeld op 30 stations. Vandaag word je wel vrolijk als je de krant openslaat. Tenminste, als je de gelukkige bezitter bent van een exemplaar van de "gespoofde" editie van de Volkskrant die vandaag in een oplage van 100.000 exemplaren verspreid is. Op dertig stations hebben groepen vrijwilligers tussen 06.00 en 09.00 uur de kranten uitgedeeld.

Op verzoek van D4net kwam Douwe Beerda op 8 april vertellen
over permacultuur.

Douwe kwam in aanraking met permacultuur toen hij op zijn reis door Australië bij verschillende boeren werkte. Hij raakte flink onder de indruk van een tropische fruitjungle. De ideeën achter permacultuur leken hem zó logisch dat hij zich verbaasde over het feit dat hij daar nog nooit eerder over had gehoord. Terug in Nederland bouwde hij de website www.permacultuurnederland.org en plaatste daarop onder andere een lijst van 250 verschillende soorten eetbare planten die hier kunnen groeien.

Erik Swyngedouw is hoogleraar geografie aan de Universiteit van Manchester. De politiek-economische analyse van het huidige kapitalisme is zijn specialiteit. Hij publiceerde verscheidene omvangrijke studies over economische globalisering, regionale ontwikkeling, financiën en urbanisatie. Zijn belangstelling gaat ook uit naar politiek-ecologische thema’s en de veranderingen van de natuur, met name watervraagstukken in Ecuador, Spanje, het Verenigd Koninkrijk en elders in Europa.

We zitten gevangen in een staat van onzekerheid, het ene noch het andere. In de afgelopen twee jaar is de wereld toegetakeld door een serie aan elkaar verbonden crises en het lijkt er niet op dat die binnen afzienbare tijd opgelost zullen zijn. De onwrikbare zekerheden van het neoliberalisme, die ons zo lang in de greep hebben gehouden, zijn ingestort. Toch lijken we niet in staat om verder te komen. Woede en protest is opgeborreld rond verschillende aspecten van de crises, maar kennelijk was het niet mogelijk om een gemeenschappelijke of consequente reactie te ontwikkelen. Een algemeen gevoel van frustratie kenmerkt de pogingen om los te komen uit het moeras van een falende wereld.

A Green New Deal is on everybody’s lips at the moment. Barack Obama has endorsed a very general version of it, the United Nations are keen, as are numerous Green parties around the world. In the words of the ‘Green New Deal Group’, an influential grouping of heterodox economists, Greens and debt-relief campaigners, such a ‘deal’ promises to solve the ‘triple crunch’ of energy, climate and economic crises. Frieder Otto Wolf, an eco-socialist and early member of the German Green Party, argues that the challenge for the global movements is to hijack the Green New Deal, rather than reject it. Tadzio Mueller, an editor of Turbulence, and involved in the Climate Justice Action network, begs to differ. He looks instead to an emerging movement for ‘climate justice’. Turbulence sat the two of them down for a chat, and kicked off the debate by suggesting that a Green New Deal might actually offer a weak looking global left a great opportunity.

Can people become so broken that truths of how they are being screwed do not "set them free" but instead further demoralize them? Has such a demoralization happened in the United States?

Do some totalitarians actually want us to hear how we have been screwed because they know that humiliating passivity in the face of obvious oppression will demoralize us even further?

What forces have created a demoralized, passive, dis-couraged U.S. population?

Can anything be done to turn this around?

Can people become so broken that truths of how they are being screwed do not "set them free" but instead further demoralize them?

Yes. It is called the "abuse syndrome." How do abusive pimps, spouses, bosses, corporations, and governments stay in control? They shove lies, emotional and physical abuses, and injustices in their victims' faces, and when victims are afraid to exit from these relationships, they get weaker. So the abuser then makes their victims eat even more lies, abuses, and injustices, resulting in victims even weaker as they remain in these relationships.
